Position Details:

The Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences (SHS), Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine, Washington State University Health Sciences Spokane, WA invites applications for a permanent, full-time, tenure-track, 9-month open rank appointment, rank will be commensurate with qualifications. This individual will be responsible for teaching undergraduate/graduate courses in SHS, conducting programmatic research, securing external funding, and providing service to the department, college, and university. The search committee is especially interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching, and/or service, will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community. Field of research is open.

The candidate is expected to begin at the start of the 2025-2026 academic year. 
 

Required Qualifications for All Candidates:

  • Record of scholarly work with potential for and/or history of externally funded support
  • Demonstrated ability to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels, and with students from diverse backgrounds and underrepresented groups.

 

Required Qualifications for Candidates at Assistant Professor rank:

  • An earned PhD in speech and hearing sciences or closely related field prior to hire. 

 

Required Qualifications for Candidates at Associate Professor rank:

  • An earned PhD in speech and hearing sciences or closely related field prior to hire
  • Six years of experience at the assistant professor rank and demonstrated performance toward tenure expectations. 
  • Appointment to the rank of Associate will be contingent on meeting tenure expectations in the College of Medicine at Washington State University through the Faculty Annual Review and Promotion and Tenure process.


Required Qualifications for Candidates at Professor rank:

  • An earned PhD in speech and hearing sciences or closely related field prior to hire
  • Six years of experience at the associate professor rank and demonstrated performance toward tenure expectations. 
  • Appointment to the rank of Professor will be contingent on meeting tenure expectations in the College of Medicine at Washington State University through the Faculty Annual Review and Promotion and Tenure process.


Preferred Qualifications for All Candidates:

  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) 
  • Area of expertise is open; special consideration will be given to applicants with experience in augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), voice, child language, or dysphagia

Annual Salary commensurate with rank:

Assistant Professor Rank: $84,000- $92,000 per 9-month academic year; 

Associate Professor Rank: $92,000-$105,000 per 9-month academic year;

Professor Rank: $105,000-115,500 per 9-month academic year

 

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Department and College: Speech and Hearing Science (SHS) is in the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine on a beautiful and growing health science campus that includes Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences, Translational Medicine and Physiology, Community and Behavioral Health, Nursing, Nutrition and Exercise Physiology, and Medical Education & Clinical Sciences. Opportunities are available for collaborations between colleges, and between units within the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine.  SHS department faculty direct dedicated laboratories and research groups with extra- and intramural research funding in autism, hearing impairment, childhood apraxia and dysarthria in rare diseases, early literacy, fluency, automatic speech recognition, and speech electrophysiology.  The Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences includes an undergraduate and graduate program.  The on-campus clinic provides specialty clinics such as Camp Candoo for children with severe apraxia, and the WSU Autism and Neurodevelopmental Program of Excellence, providing multidisciplinary evaluation of autism spectrum disorder and neurodevelopmental disabilities.  The College of Medicine has relationships with hospitals, community clinics, individual service providers, school districts, and advocacy groups.  Researchers in the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences are engaged in community-based research and interinstitutional projects with collaborators worldwide.
