Position Summary

The clinical supervisor and externship coordinator in Audiology is responsible for the clinical teaching and supervision of undergraduate and graduate students, the evaluation and treatment of clients, and the coordination of clinical externships for the program. This position supports both on-campus and off-campus training experiences, serves as a liaison to externship sites, and ensures compliance with accreditation and university requirements.

Required Qualifications

Doctoral Degree in Audiology (AuD and/or PhD) or Master’s Degree in Audiology (MA/MS), if obtained prior to 2007.
ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) or proven eligibility upon hire.
Current Michigan License in Audiology or proven eligibility upon hire.
Demonstrated expertise in one or more areas of audiology practice (e.g., diagnostics, amplification, electrophysiology, cochlear implants, auditory processing, vestibular assessment, or related areas).
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to maintain positive interpersonal relations.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations.

Preferred Qualifications

Three years of professional experience as an audiologist.
Two years of experience in the clinical supervision of audiology students.
Experience coordinating externships, clinical placements, or academic practicum sites.
Familiarity with clinical education management systems (e.g., Calipso).

Duties & Responsibilities

Provides clinical teaching and supervision of undergraduate and graduate audiology students in on-campus and off-campus settings.
Performs audiologic evaluations, treatments, and follow-up care.
Provides audiologic support services to Mobile Health Central and school personnel.
Teaches academic courses such as AUD 759, 769, 849, 995, or others as assigned.
Coordinates student placements, including:
- securing and monitoring second-year summer and fourth-year externships.
- maintaining and updating the Clinical Externship Manual; educating students on externship rules and expectations.
- vetting externship sites, coordinating affiliation agreements, onboarding processes, and certificates of insurance with the College of Health Professions clinical compliance coordinator.
- conducting regular site visits and tracking placement needs in consultation with program leadership.
Manages site and accreditation requirements, including:
- maintaining placement databases and Calipso records.
- registering supervisors and students, verifying ASHA certification and licensure, and completing semester checklists.
- reviewing supervisor evaluations, addressing concerns, and ensuring compliance with accreditation standards.
Serves as liaison among students, faculty, preceptors, and clinical sites, providing communication, guidance, and troubleshooting.
Reviews placement feedback and implements strategies for continuous improvement.
Attends university, college, department, and division meetings as appropriate.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
