Chair of Speech-Language Pathology (Associate/Full Professor/Tenure Eligible)
Old Dominion University invites applications for an inspiring and accomplished scholar and leader to serve as Chair of the School of Speech-Language Pathology (Associate/Full Professor rank, 12-month, tenure-eligible) to start in Summer 2026. As part of the Ellmer College of Health Sciences within Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences, we are a stand-alone department of ten full-time faculty engaged in research, education, and clinical training for our BS Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology and MS Speech-Language Pathology programs. Collaboration with the Kinesiology and Rehabilitation doctoral program also takes place.
Responsibilities of the chair include:
-Provide visionary leadership in strategic decision-making to advance innovative programs and interdisciplinary collaboration in practice, research, and education
-Foster excellence in teaching, research, and clinical mentorship to support faculty, staff, and students in achieving professional goals
-Manage department resources and expand funding support for increased scholarship and training opportunities
-Oversee ongoing accreditation and assessment for continuous quality assurance
-Promote engagement and strengthen relationships with community partners and alumni
Required Minimum Qualifications:
1-Research doctorate in Speech-Language Pathology or a related discipline
2-Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
3-Demonstrated record of scholarly research and publications to be eligible for tenure
4-Familiarity with CAA accreditation and CFCC certification standards
5-Demonstrated experience in leadership of department and/or committee service initiatives (college, university, state, national, or international)
6-Expertise in adult language, motor speech, cognitive-communication and/or swallowing disorders
Preferred Qualifications:
-Demonstrated record of external grant funding or management of multidisciplinary research programs
-Experience with innovative methods and/or technology-enhanced teaching and learning approaches
-Commitment to person-centered, culturally responsive practices
-Record of interprofessional collaborations and/or community engagement
