Position Overview

The Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences department in the College of Communication at Butler University invites applications for a 3-year, 9-month clinical faculty and clinical director with an expected start date of August 2026, renewable based on performance and continued demand. The successful candidate will be a dedicated teacher-clinician-mentor committed to the merger of theory and practice, experiential learning, and inclusive pedagogies. They will teach classes related to clinical preparation, including Clinical Procedures and Clinical Practicum, as well as the potential to teach classes related to pediatric populations such as Phonetics and Phonology. They will also direct the SLHS clinical program, advise students, and provide leadership and service to the university community.

Minimum Qualifications

• MA, MS, SLP-D, or PhD in speech-language pathology, expected by the time of appointment;
• Current ASHA certification (CCC-SLP);
• Professional experience as a speech-language pathologist;
• A record of clinical experience, supervision, and leadership; 
• Experience managing people on projects;
• Excellent written and oral communication skills;
• Expressed desire to provide equal opportunity for success to all students

Preferred Qualifications

While not everyone may meet all preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

• Successful experience in the following:
  • working with pediatric populations;
  • working collaboratively with others (e.g., committee service, being part of a production team, co-teaching);
  • working independently (e.g., supervising clinic, course development);
• Demonstrated successful experience teaching undergraduate speech, language, and hearing sciences courses;
• Experience connecting and collaborating with speech, language, and/or hearing professionals on the local, regional, and/or national levels;
• Effective interpersonal communication skills;
• Effective classroom management skills

About the College of Communication: 

The College of Communication enrolls approximately 550 students across its 8 majors and online graduate program in Strategic Communication. CCOM is a dynamic and forward-thinking college that seeks to create an inclusive learning environment with a student-focused approach.  Tenure-track faculty in the College have a typical teaching load of 3 courses per semester with an expectation for research and service. About the SLHS Department: The department has 120 undergraduate students who participate in a variety of experiential learning opportunities, including in-house speech-language and audiology clinics. We are also developing a new MA in Deaf Education. Over the past several years 100% of our undergraduate students who applied to graduate school were accepted into at least one graduate program. In addition, the program has strong professional connections in the Indianapolis community and students who are actively interested in research.
