Description

The Cathy Hughes School of Communications at Howard University in Washington, D.C. seeks outstanding candidates for a full-time Clinical Educator. While all qualified candidates will be considered, preference will be given to candidates with expertise in neurogenic communication/swallowing disorders. The successful candidate will provide clinical supervision and teach clinical courses in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. The candidate must demonstrate an interest in cultural and linguistic diversity relevant to teaching, research, and service. The appointment begins August 2025.

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders offers a minor in speech-language pathology, the Master of Science degree in speech-language pathology and the Ph.D. in communication sciences. In keeping with the legacy of Howard University, the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders has a nationally and internationally renowned faculty, and an outstanding reputation for addressing multicultural issues in speech-language pathology. The candidate must demonstrate understanding of and support for the mission of Howard University.


Qualifications

  • Masters’s degree or Doctoral degree in communication sciences and disorders or speech-language pathology
  • ASHA Certification in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP)
  •  Licensure /Eligible for speech-language licensure in the District of Columbia Licensure in Speech-Language Pathology
  • At minimum- five years of experience in clinical service delivery
  • 3-5 years of experience with specialization in adult neurogenic communication disorders is preferred; however, all specializations will be considered
  • Three years of clinical supervision experience.

Principle Responsibilities: 

  • Teach practicum courses and other courses as assigned
  • Supervision
  • provide student supervision of diagnostics and therapy in the Howard University Speech and Hearing Clinic
  • conduct weekly sessions with students to provide feedback on their clinical performance
  • monitor student performance through midterm and final evaluations
  • certify clock hours
  • Assist clinic needs in:
  • marketing and public relations development
  • departmental recruitment
  • obtaining potential sites and/or clinical partnerships
  • Other related responsibilities as assigned
