Director of SLP-A Program, Clinical Assistant Professor

The School of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Memphis is seeking a skilled, innovative, and visionary speech-language pathologist with a strong clinical background who would like to work in a stimulating academic setting. The Director would develop and direct a new online program for speech-language pathology assistants. This position is a twelve-month, non-tenure-track, grant-funded line, beginning in January 2025. The continuation of this position beyond four years is contingent upon the SLP-A program's success.

This is a great opportunity for a talented speech-language pathologist to join an energized and innovative faculty. The University of Memphis has nationally recognized professional graduate programs in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, a research-oriented PhD, and a bachelor’s degree in American Sign Language and Deaf Studies. The SLP-A program would be a new addition to the School’s offerings.

The School houses the Memphis Speech and Hearing Center, which serves as both the experiential learning laboratory for students and as a comprehensive communication healthcare center to the Memphis metropolitan area.

The School of Communication Sciences and Disorders works to create diverse and accessible work, educational, and research environments. The School welcomes a wide range of ideas, practices, and expertise across the breadth and depth of the human experience.

 

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher
  • CCC-SLP and eligible for Tennessee state licensure
  • Minimum of 4 years of clinical experience in a preK-12 school environment
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a clinical educator
  • Excellent communication, counseling/coaching, collaboration, organizational, and leadership skills
  • Following areas are desired, but not required:

Experience with telepractice/telesupervision

Experience working in higher education

Familiarity with online instructional technology and course design

Clinical Faculty Responsibilities:

  • Work with faculty on curriculum and program outcomes/design
  • Teach online coursework
  • Service to School, University, and the profession
  • Professional/leadership activity
  • Maintain a line of clinical practice
  • Clinical supervision

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the design, development, and implementation of online SLP-A program
  • Track program progress and outcomes, and report as necessary
  • Establish policy and procedure for program implementation
  • Recruit, advise and mentor students
