Position Summary:

The mission of the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology (MS-SLP) program at Oklahoma Baptist University (OBU) is to prepare competent and professional service-minded leaders in speech-language pathology (SLP) who apply Christian principles and values to communication and swallowing disorder prevention, assessment, and intervention across the lifespan.  The OBU MS-SLP program invites applications for a Director of Student Success. This is a 12-month, full-time faculty appointment, which involves administration, teaching, advising, service, and scholarship. Additionally, the Director of Student Success is responsible for oversight of advising and mentoring, coordination of student accommodations, and creating a culture of hospitality within the program. Faculty rank and salary will be determined based on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.  The ideal candidate demonstrates a desire for innovation, teaching excellence, mentoring skills, a growth mindset, and a collaborative attitude.  This position is eligible for remote work. Remote employees will be required to travel to the OBU campus in Shawnee, OK as determined by the Program Director and Dean.

 

Hiring Timeline: 

The desired start date for this position is August 1, 2025. The position will remain open until it is filled.

 

Qualifications:

  • Preferred: terminal academic doctorate (PhD or EdD) from a regionally accredited institution. Candidates actively pursuing a terminal degree, holding a clinical doctorate, or with a master’s degree will also be considered.
  • A minimum of two years full-time experience as a core faculty member in a CAA accredited SLP program. 
  • Experience in higher education, specifically developing and teaching asynchronous and/or synchronous online graduate or undergraduate courses.  
  • Evidence of innovation, organization, leadership, and excellence in hybrid or online instruction at the university level.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate professionally and collegially with colleagues within the program and across the institution.
  • Alignment with OBU’s Kingdom diversity initiatives and the desire to create a culture of hospitality among students, faculty, alumni, and community members.
  • Experience with holistic admissions and student recruitment and the ability to interact effectively with diverse applicants.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for mentoring and advising undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Licensed, or eligible for licensure, as a Speech-Language Pathologist in Oklahoma.
  • Current ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP).
  • Active in professional activities at local, state, and/or national levels.

Responsibilities:

  • Administrative:
  • Collaborate with the Director of Admissions to design and implement a holistic admissions process that includes application review, interview selection, and enrollment offers.
  • Lead the Student Success Committee.
  • Manage and monitor enrollment and outcomes for bootcamp courses.
  • Develop a culture of welcoming and hospitality that begins with student enrollment offers and continues throughout the academic journey.
  • Organize social events and networking opportunities during on-campus residency experiences.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive student success program, including advising and mentoring frameworks.
  • Connect students with university and professional resources related to disability accommodations, counseling services, diversity, leadership, and mentoring.
  • Encourage student participation in leadership and mentoring opportunities with the university, ASHA, and state associations, such as ASHA Multicultural Constituency Groups, ASHA Minority Student Leadership Program, ASHA STEP Mentoring Program, NSSLHA and OBU Kingdom Diversity Initiatives.
  • Coordinate orientation activities for incoming students and graduate celebrations for program completers.

  • Course Development and Teaching:  
  • Develop and teach graduate courses.
  • Collaborate with program faculty to develop on-campus residency experiences.
  • Research:
  • Conduct and disseminate scholarly research.
  • Service:
  • Participate in institutional and professional service opportunities.
  • Advise graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Professional Development:
  • Engage in professional development opportunities.

Special Requirements:

  • Must be an active member of an evangelical* church in one's community of residence, willing to teach in accordance with the Baptist Faith & Message 2000, and in agreement with the university's policy on human sexuality (provided by HR upon request). *Evangelical is a broad term referring to a segment within Christianity which maintains the authority of the Bible and the belief in salvation by faith in Jesus alone.
