DISCIPLINE Speech-Language Pathology TYPE Faculty

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) at Elmhurst University seeks a full-time faculty member to teach graduate and undergraduate courses (e.g., Language Disorders, Anatomy and Physiology, Neurological Basis of Communication Sciences and Disorders, Speech Science), though all specialties will be considered. In addition to teaching, responsibilities include academic advising and providing service to the department, university, and broader community. The teaching load is six courses per year. The salary range for this position is $70,000-$78,000

REPORTING AND SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIP(S):

Direct reporting relationship: department chair

 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Remain a certified ASHA member in good standing.
  • Maintain Illinois State licensure.
  • Complete CEU requirements as required for ASHA certification and IL licensure.
  • Write letters of recommendation for students applying for graduate school, as requested by students.
  • Attend department meetings and retreats and/or review minutes.
  • Assume additional responsibilities, as determined by the needs of the department, as negotiated with the department chair (e.g., attending open houses, admissions committee)

 

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employee is subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions.  Work is sedentary in nature and involves exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move object.


MINIMUM QUALFICATIONS:

  • Clinical doctorate degree in Speech-Language Pathology required. Ph.D. Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or other closely related field preferred.
  • Certification from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
  • Illinois state licensure
  • At least two years of full-time clinical experience
  • Ability to work well with students
  • Ability to work well as a team member with department members
  • Excellent oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent professional writing skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • High degree of flexibility


Department.  The undergraduate program in Communication Sciences and Disorders was founded in 1946.  The Master of Science (M.S.) program in speech-language pathology through the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Elmhurst University is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. The program is accredited through June 30, 2030.  The CSD department consists of stellar professionals who collaborate on graduate and undergraduate degree programs with excellent student outcomes. The program is known for its exceptional clinical training, excellence in teaching, faculty-student research and Multicultural/Multilingual Emphasis in the graduate program.   In 2020, our Speech-Language Pathology graduate program ranked among the best in Illinois (7th) and the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report’s prestigious Best Graduate Schools list. The department is located in a newer building and houses the Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic, Voice and Swallowing Center, and Simulation Center The CSD department is part of the newly structured School of Health Sciences including Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Kinesiology and Public Health. We are located in a new 30 million dollar building to house these programs and foster interprofessional collaboration. The Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic, Voice and Swallowing Center, and Simulation Center are housed on site.
