Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) offers a master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) and has 15 full-time academic faculty and clinical educators. As one of the campuses of the University of North Carolina (UNC) system, North Carolina Central University(NCCU) is located in Durham near Research Triangle Park. The Department of CSD is a full-time, campus-based graduate program and features a curriculum that integrates research, evidence-based clinical experiences, and a focus on serving diverse populations. The Master of Science degree program in Speech-Language Pathology is accredited by the Council of Academic Accreditation (CAA) in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. The NCCU Speech, Language, and Hearing Clinic provides speech, language, and hearing evaluations and treatment services for monolingual and bilingual clients from birth through adult age.
Primary Purpose of Position
Responsibilities of this position include instruction, advising, development of an ongoing research program, pursuit of funding opportunities, and service. This position will also enable the program to maintain accreditation by the CAA in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
All areas of expertise will be considered. Candidates must be aware of the current trends of the profession. A commitment to effective teaching is expected and a capacity for achieving extramural support is desired. Applicants with competitive research and teaching records are encouraged to apply.
Minimum Education/Experience
Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Communication Sciences or a related field.
Licenses or Certification required by Statute or Regulation
Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from ASHA; possess or eligible for NC Licensure in Speech Pathology.

  • Advising and mentoring graduate students.

  • Supporting program accreditation activities and contributing to ongoing curriculum development and program assessment.
