We're Growing! Join Our Nationally Ranked Team

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Iowa is excited to announce our search for a tenure-track faculty member whose research focuses on physiological mechanisms and/or neural mechanisms as they relate to developmental or aging differences in speech and/or swallowing. This search represents our commitment to growing – not just backfilling – as we strengthen our research portfolio in these areas and expand our position as a leader in the field.

Why This is an Exciting Time to Join Iowa CSD

Our program just moved into the new Health Sciences Academic Building in fall 2025, featuring state-of-the-art research laboratories and clinical facilities. With over 48,000 square feet dedicated to CSD, including 29 laboratories and 18,000 square feet of clinical space, we've created an unparalleled environment for research and education. Our proximity to UI Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC) provides exceptional access to clinical populations and medical expertise.

While we are looking to strengthen our expertise in swallowing and neurological speech disorders, we welcome excellent candidates from any area who can bring new perspectives and complementary expertise to our team. We expect our faculty to find rich collaborative opportunities both within our department and across campus – including partnerships with UIHC medical specialties, the Iowa Neuroscience Institute, Psychological and Brain Sciences, Engineering, and many other departments. Our strong collaborative culture and outstanding infrastructure create the ideal environment for innovative, interdisciplinary research.

This is just the beginning of our expansion – we will soon be advertising a hearing science faculty position, reflecting our commitment to growing across all areas of our discipline.

Join a program consistently ranked among the top in the nation (2nd in Audiology, 5th in Speech-Language Pathology - U.S. News & World Report) with a legacy spanning over 100 years and a future focused on cutting-edge research and clinical excellence.
