WEBINAR: Supporting Faculty with Historically Excluded Identities | Tuesday, November 19, 2024

1:30 PM - 2:30 PM ET | .1 ASHA CEUs

8/13/2024

Diversifying the field of Communication Sciences and Disorders has been a challenge since this field was initially established. Despite academic and professional standards in place to address cultural and linguistic diversity and calls to increase the number of professionals with historically excluded identities, we have remained stagnant in our progress. Despite laws prohibiting discrimination and a constitution that speaks of establishing justice and promoting the general welfare of people, deeply-rooted, systemic issues that impact our ability to diversity the field remain. But Why? If we say we want to diversify the field, provide culturally responsive services, establish justice and promote the general welfare of all people, what's stopping us? This webinar examines institutional culture-past and present- and challenges faculty to consider messages-intended and unintended-we send to individuals with identities that have been historically excluded in academic spaces. This webinar will also challenge participants to reflect on their own experience to reframe how they approach addressing cultural and linguistic diversity across the field.
